Art for Kids

The Arts Center is pleased to offer a variety of classes for children ages 18 months and up. Read on to find the perfect class for your aspiring artist!

Need-based scholarships are available for many classes. Contact director@communityartscenter.net or 859.236.4054 to request more information. We also offer payment plans, allowing you to spread the cost of registration across a longer period of time. Contact Kate Snyder at kate@communityartscenter.net to set up a payment plan. Bottom line: If your child loves art, we want them in these classes!!

If you have a younger art-lover (not in school yet), check out our Munchkin & Me class!  This FREE weekly drop-in class is perfect for kids 18 months to 4 years, with an adult caregiver.

No matter what medium you are working in, there are certain core principles to all artistic design. In this class, we will explore some of these fundamental concepts, including line, shape, value, texture, form, and space. Students will deepen their understanding of how these concepts form the building blocks of art and will create original artwork that utilizes these concepts. This fast-paced, hands-on class will introduce students to a range of media and techniques. 
 
This is a six-week class. Please note class will not meet on 11/22. Registration fee includes all materials.

Grab your sleeping bag and get ready for a fun-filled sleepover at the Community Arts Center! We’ll enjoy art-making activities, go on an art scavenger hunt, explore the galleries by flashlight, and watch a movie. If you child has attended a previous sleepover, fear not. Each Night at the Museum event will feature different activities, movie, etc. Registration fee includes an evening snack and light breakfast Saturday morning.

Get ready to get creative! In this elementary visual arts class, students will be introduced to a range of artistic styles and mediums as learning about famous artists and their work. Sign up for one four-week session or join us for the entire twelve-week semester. We’ll be doing different projects each week. Over the course of the semester, students will explore drawing, painting, ceramics, mixed media, collage, and more!

In this two-week workshp, students will have the opportunity to create three ‘supporting’ characters, choosing animals, kings, or a combination of figures! The first session will focus on building the basic figures. We’ll glaze them on Day 2. Please note that the class weeks are not sequential – these projects require drying time! 
 
This is a two-week class. Registration fee includes all materials and firing.
