Art for Kids

The Arts Center is pleased to offer a variety of classes for children ages 18 months and up. Read on to find the perfect class for your aspiring artist!

Need-based scholarships are available for many classes. Contact director@communityartscenter.net or 859.236.4054 to request more information. We also offer payment plans, allowing you to spread the cost of registration across a longer period of time. Contact Kate Snyder at kate@communityartscenter.net to set up a payment plan. Bottom line: If your child loves art, we want them in these classes!!

If you have a younger art-lover (not in school yet), check out our Munchkin & Me class!  This FREE weekly drop-in class is perfect for kids 18 months to 4 years, with an adult caregiver.

In this mixed-media art class, we will observe, and discuss art from Japan and respond to what we learned by creating art using similar ideas, themes and art processes.We will create our very own kimonos, cherry blossom scrolls, koi fish, and more.  This is a four-week class.

In this mixed-media class, students study works by famous artists and then create their own original art inspired by the masters. This is a great opportunity for young students to build connections between what they see and what they can create themselves.

During this fun-filled kids’ ceramics class, young creatives will learn to hand-build clay, use a potter’s wheel, and glaze their projects for show and tell. During the 4-week session, students will complete 1-3 projects from start to finish then take them home. Parents, clear your cupboards and get ready for the holiday gift giving season!

THIS CLASS IS SOLD OUT! But don’t despair. Round up a few friends and schedule a private party (10 painters, minimum). You can create your own masterpiece on a date that works with your schedule!

Add a touch of rustic fall charm to your home with this lovely painting. Even if you’re never held a brush before, our fabulous instructor will help you create a beautiful painting by providing step-by-step instructions. Starry Night Studio is a social painting experience. Grab a few friends and join us!

We will be painting on a 16″ x 20″ canvas. All materials are provided!

This two-day workshop will teach students the basics of hand-building with clay. Students will create several pinch pot sculptures using additive and subtractive methods of sculpting. Because clay projects require time to dry and fire, a glazing day will be held at a date TBD after completion of the workshops. This is a two-week class. Grab your sleeping bag and get ready for a fun-filled sleepover at the Community Arts Center! We’ll enjoy fall-themed art-making activities, go on an art scavenger hunt, explore the galleries by flashlight, and watch a movie.  If your child has attended a sleepover at the Arts Center before, fear not! We’ll have all new activities and projects at each event.  
 
This event will be staffed by two female counselors. Maximum enrollment is 20 students. Registration fee includes an evening snack and light breakfast Saturday morning.

Feel the rhythm in this intergenerational drum circle for musicians ages 7 and up. Make new friends of all ages as we explore a different style of drumming with special guest artists each week. We’ll explore African, Brazilian, Native American, and Caribbean styles under the guidance of instructor Lydia Ellis.

Why is a theatrical performance called a play? Because that’s exactly what theatre artists do – they play! This improv-based acting camp will inspire students to unleash their creative potential through a variety of fun theatre games and activities. The week-long camp will encompass multiple facets of theatre and it will culminate in a performance that the students will help create! Campers need to bring a packed lunch.
