Art for Kids

The Arts Center is pleased to offer a variety of classes for children ages 18 months and up. Read on to find the perfect class for your aspiring artist!

Need-based scholarships are available for many classes. Contact director@communityartscenter.net or 859.236.4054 to request more information. We also offer payment plans, allowing you to spread the cost of registration across a longer period of time. Contact Kate Snyder at kate@communityartscenter.net to set up a payment plan. Bottom line: If your child loves art, we want them in these classes!!

If you have a younger art-lover (not in school yet), check out our Munchkin & Me class!  This FREE weekly drop-in class is perfect for kids 18 months to 4 years, with an adult caregiver.

Over the course of the semester, students will explore drawing, painting, ceramics, mixed media, collage, and more!

Splish, splash, quack! This cheerful rubber ducky will make you smile every time you look at him. For this class, we’ll be painting on a 12″ square canvas, making it the perfect accent piece for a bathroom, bedroom, or playroom! Artists of all ages are welcome for this class. Painters ages 7+ may participate unaccompanied.

No matter what medium you are working in, there are certain core principles to all artistic design. In this class, we will explore some of these fundamental concepts, including line, shape, value, texture, form, and space. Students will deepen their understanding of how these concepts form the building blocks of art and will create original artwork that utilizes these concepts. This fast-paced, hands-on class will introduce students to a range of media and techniques. 
 
This is a six-week class. Please note class will not meet on 10/11. Registration fee includes all materials.

Who says art class needs to stay in the classroom? In this four-week class, we’ll think outside the box – and outside the building – as we study and experiment with techniques in urban street art. Whether we’re collecting trash for found-art sculpture or engaging in guerilla public art, this class will change the way you look at the world around you.

This class is the first of our Young Masters class series for students in grades 4-8. The series will continue with How to Draw People (October) and Kids Sculpture (November). If you sign your child up for all three classes, you can elect to pay in installments (4 monthly payments of $30 each) rather than paying the entire fee up front. The children in the Ugandan Kids Choir are known for their musical talents and their joyful performances. They sing traditional African songs, play authentic African instruments, and dance in their colorful African attire. 

The Choir is a ministry of Childcare Worldwide, which has been devoted to empowering children in the developing world since 1981. Childcare Worldwide serves children in nine developing countries by taking care of their physical, spiritual, and educational needs.

These beautiful bowls are a perfect addition to your fall home decor. In this class, you will use basic hand-building techniques to create a shallow bowl, formed from overlapping leaf shapes. Grab your sleeping bag and get ready for a fun-filled sleepover at the Community Arts Center! We’ll enjoy art-making activities, go on an art scavenger hunt, explore the galleries by flashlight, and watch a movie. If you child has attended a previous sleepover, fear not. Each Night at the Museum event will feature different activities, movie, etc. Registration fee includes an evening snack and light breakfast Saturday morning.
