Art for Kids

The Arts Center is pleased to offer a variety of classes for children ages 18 months and up. Read on to find the perfect class for your aspiring artist!

Need-based scholarships are available for many classes. Contact director@communityartscenter.net or 859.236.4054 to request more information. We also offer payment plans, allowing you to spread the cost of registration across a longer period of time. Contact Kate Snyder at kate@communityartscenter.net to set up a payment plan. Bottom line: If your child loves art, we want them in these classes!!

If you have a younger art-lover (not in school yet), check out our Munchkin & Me class!  This FREE weekly drop-in class is perfect for kids 18 months to 4 years, with an adult caregiver.

Spend the day making music with our friends from the Danville Children’s Choir. DCC Director Emily Roberts will lead students through a fun-filled day of musical exploration with an emphasis on singing. Special guest Joan Stansbury will also introduce students to the Orff Approach of music education, which combines music, movement, drama, and speech into fun, play-based lessons. At the end of the day, campers will present a short performance to friends and family. Campers will also have the opportunity to audition for the Danville Children’s Choir immediately following camp!
 
Registration fee includes all materials and a snack. Campers will need to pack a lunch.

Learn the Art of Manners in this fun class that focuses on good manners and why they matter. Students will learn about conversation tips & compliments, table manners & table settings, and thank-you cards. On the last day of class, students will host a brief ‘reception’ for parents as an opportunity to practice the skills they have learned!

Sign up for one four-week session or join us for the entire twelve-week semester. We’ll be doing different projects each week. Over the course of the semester, students will explore drawing, painting, ceramics, mixed media, collage, and more!

Introduce a new generation to this charming Southern tradition. During the six-week course, students will learn the basic steps to a variety of classic dances, including waltz, foxtrot, quick step, basic swing, and rumba. Each evening will also have a focus on etiquette in social situations and on how to be good hosts and hostesses. The final week will be a social event, with parents invited to join in the fun and see what their children have learned. 

This class is offered in partnership with our friends at Danville Dance Company under the instruction of owner and director Whitney Thomas. Please register children by gender so we can keep an eye on the gender balance for this class.

During this fun-filled kids’ ceramics class, young creatives will learn to hand-build clay, explore the potter’s wheel, and glaze their projects for show and tell. Our potter’s wheel lesson is about getting a feel for the process and having fun.)

Grab your sleeping bag and get ready for a fun-filled sleepover at the Community Arts Center! We’ll enjoy art-making activities, go on an art scavenger hunt, explore the galleries by flashlight, and watch a movie. If you child has attended a previous sleepover, fear not. Each Night at the Museum event will feature different activities, movie, etc. Registration fee includes an evening snack and light breakfast Saturday morning.
