Suffering from cabin fever as we stagger toward spring? Shake off the cobwebs and come to the Arts Center!  Drop your kids off for a mug-painting workshop in the paint-your-own pottery studio, then slip away and get yourself a cup of coffee downtown. You deserve it.

Each class participant will decorate one mug. Finished pieces will be ready for pickup in approximately 10 days after being fired in the Arts Center. Please note that this class must meet a minimum enrollment of 10 students to be offered, bring a friend!

In this introductory class, students will work with clay in a fun, easy-going, imagination-liberating space. Beginning with the design process, students will explore the sculptural, architectural and figurative possibilities that clay offers.  Each student will create several pieces that will go through the entire process of sculpting, from initial modeling, firing, glazing, and then presenting work to the public.

Thanks to generous community support, we are able to offer this class for $50 per student for the seven-week session. Please note that this class requires a minimum enrollment of 10 students.

At last! The visual arts class for kids who love video games. In this seven-week mixed-media class, students will create video game-inspired artwork using a wide variety of visual arts techniques. Please note that there is NO computer programming in this class! We will be exploring the aesthetics, style, and structure of video games, but not actually developing real games. Class fee includes all materials.

Would you like to learn to draw –really draw? This fun and fast paced class will improve your drawing skills, no doubt! Arts Center Program Director Brandon Long will help kids will learn strategies for drawing faces, people, landscapes that really do look 3-D, and much more, while introducing some of the fundamental concepts of visual art.

Mudslingers allows children AND adults to experience the positive benefits of working with clay in a relaxed and supportive environment. Students of all ages will enjoy learning the basics of working with clay, including functional and decorative pieces. It’s a great bonding opportunity for parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren, BBBS pairs or anyone who is looking for something fun to do with a special child in their life.

Note: This is an intergenerational class. The registration fee of $150 is for one adult/child pair. Children interested in taking pottery alone may register for Pottery for Kids.

Celebrate March Madness with a drop-off workshop at the paint-your-own pottery studio! An Arts Center instructor will help your child create their very own basket-ball themed plate. Staying in town over spring break? Your kids will have a blast at the Arts Center’s popular Spring Break Camp! Students in grades K-5 will explore a wide variety of art projects in mediums including drawing, painting, and ceramics. Campers need to bring a packed lunch and should wear clothes that can get a bit messy!
