The Art of Pilgrimage: from Jerusalem to Santiago

October 17, 2017 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

The Art of Pilgrimage: from Jerusalem to Santiago
Tuesday, October 17 | 12pm to 1pm | $10 per person
Dr. Lee Jefferson (Centre College)

People of various faiths have desired to travel to sacred sites for centuries out of a desire to have proximity to the holy.  Early and medieval Christians developed the act of pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Rome and to the burial site of St. James in Santiago, Spain.  As a result of this practice, vivid material evidence emerged, manifested in relics and church art and architecture.  Dr. Lee Jefferson will lead listeners on these sacred paths and the visual art that is their legacy, allowing us to realize the “art” of pilgrimage that exists today.

Lecture is $10 at the door ($5 for Centre College students) or pre-register for the four-session art history series for $35 by clicking here
