Cultural forms are in constant flow across geographical, social, and political boundaries. This process is often difficult to appreciate as it typically happens in diffuse and unsystematic ways; it is difficult to find examples where the process is localized and open to analysis. The Great Mosque in Cordoba, Spain is a happy example of the adoption, adaptation, and transformation of a preexisting set of architectural forms that became emblematic of medieval Spanish architecture.
