As a former City Commissioner, Mayor, and member of the KY State House of Representatives, John Bowling is a well-known figure in Danville. But did you know he is also a model railroad aficionado? Join us on July 17th for an introduction to the tiny – and fabulous! – world of model railroads.
Things to know about this event!
- This event is off-site. We will be meeting at John’s home at 406 Maple Avenue
- There is street parking available on-site but prepared to walk a bit. We will have a golf cart available to shuttle people from Main Street to John’s workshop, at the rear of the property.
- The presentation itself will be brief, with time to examine the incredible miniatures. There will not be audience seating – we will be standing for the presentation.
- No food or drink is permitted in the building
John says, “When building a model railroad or a small diorama related to trains, I usually take a thought, turn that
thought into a vision, take that vision and turn it into a highly detailed, three dimensional scene that
would include trains, autos, trucks, people, animals, and buildings that fit the era and surroundings.
Everything is designed to support the scene.”
“Detail is very important because it’s the detail that brings everything to realism – how people are
interacting with each other and their surroundings, how the buildings are made to look old and
weathered, interior lighting and décor, or real dirt and trees. The key to modeling a scene is to make the
scene look as realistic as possible.”
