LWTA – The Overtones Barbershop Quartet
Lunch with the Arts – The Overtones Barber Shop Quartet
Wednesday, May 15 | 12pm to 1pm
$5 at the door ($3 for students)
We’re excited to welcome The Overtones back to the Community Arts Center. Their presentation will include a brief background of barbershop, a truly American art form, demonstration of unique four-part harmony construction, and a broad sampling of both early and more modern compositions utilizing the barbershop harmony style.
Members of the Overtones quartet – Tom Hart (Lead), John Stegner (Bass), Alan Bettler (Tenor) and Lew
Kelly (Baritone) – bring a wealth and diversity of backgrounds to their craft with a combined 200+ years
of vocal music education and experience. (Yeah, they’re THAT, old but, boy, can they sing!) The 2019
edition of Overtones has been incorporated for approximately 8 years. While diligently working to
produce expanded sound … the “Overt Ones” (aka) are also into having serious FUN! Their evolving
repertoire ranges from silly to sacred, with generous apportionments of romantic, “period” and popular
selections. The Overtones’ philosophy is “Music is life and happiness is harmony”. Overtones have been
seen and heard at Castle Post, Lexington Legends, Kentucky Horse Park, bars, banks and backyards;
they’ll go anywhere for a song!
