Art Trip to Speed Art Museum
Saturday, October 7 | 9:45am to 5:00pm
Pre-Trip Talk: Tuesday, October 3 | 6:30pm to 7:30pm
Led by Dr. Jay Bloom | $88 per person
The oldest, largest, and most important art museum in Kentucky reopened last year after being shut for three years for a $60 million remake. To celebrate this exciting new Kentucky art resource, the Community Arts Center is sponsoring a guided trip to the Speed on October 7th.
Dr. Jay Bloom, Centre College art history professor, will give a preparatory talk on Tuesday, October 3rd, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and the trip will take place on Saturday, October 7th, leaving Danville at 9:45 a.m. and returning at 5:00 p.m.
The group, which will be limited to 25 members, will travel to Louisville on a Sandollar tour bus and have lunch at the indoor/outdoor Wiltshire Café that was created by prominent Louisville baker/restauranteur Susan Hershberg. During the pre-lunch session at the Speed, Bloom will talk about a few prominent works from the Speed’s two major collection. Then, after lunch, he’ll focus on the Contemporary Gallery, which features a glass piece by Danville artist Stephen Powell. There will also be time for exploring on your own.
The cost for the trip is $88. This includes the preparatory talk, transportation, museum entry and tour, lunch at the Wiltshire Café, and all gratuities.
