Art in the Schools

Why does the Community Arts Center facilitate arts programming at local schools?

#1 – Kids love art.

#2 – Kids need art.

#3 – Most schools have a smaller budget for arts education than they would have in a perfect world.

#4 – Most families also have a smaller budget for arts education than they would have in a perfect world.

Bottom line: We believe in taking art to the people who need it and aren’t getting enough of it.

This fall, Arts Center staff and volunteers are making weekly visits to Admirals Academy (the Danville schools after-school program) and the Burgin Academy (a joint after-school program for the Burgin Independent Schools and Kentucky School for the Deaf). warhol-pop-artWe are also running a monthly art club at Bate Middle School.

All together, we’re running school-based arts programming for 120 kids each week.

Our arts outreach programs are all about introducing kids to new ideas, new techniques, and new materials. Art is about critical thinking and creative expression. It’s about problem solving and teamwork. And it’s about having a fabulous time.
